Welcome to Wolfscastle Women’s Institute
Originally formed in March 1934, Wolfscastle WI closed for the duration of the Second
World War and was reformed in March 1952. 2002, was our Golden Jubilee Year.
We usually meet at 7.30pm on the first Thursday of each month, except August, in the Vestry Hall of Penybont Chapel in Wolfscastle. Our membership varies between twenty and thirty in
number and the officers, President, Vice - President, Secretary and Treasurer, are elected at our Annual General Meeting held in November each year. A committee of officers and
five or six members hold a planning meeting a few days before each monthly meeting.
Our programme for the year, which starts in January, is prepared in September with all members being invited to put their ideas forward. The programme contains items to suit all
tastes, talks, demonstrations, trips and social evenings.
Wolfscastle WI belongs to the Pembrokeshire Federation of WIs having its own WI house at 90 Prendergast, Haverfordwest. There are 63 WIs in Pembrokeshire, divided into
groups. We join with Dinas Cross, Dwrbach, Fishguard, Henner, Letterston, Mathry and Puncheston to form the Cemaes Group. A Group Meeting is held each Spring and Autumn.
A Federation Newsletter is produced monthly from Haverfordwest giving news of events in the County and is available to all members. Information is also to be found in the WI Diary.
The Federation Annual Council Meeting is held in November in Haverfordwest and the Spring Council Meeting in various locations throughout the County. Both events feature
well-known speakers and are enjoyed by all.
NFWI (the National Federation of Women’s Institutes) has its head office in London and its
college, Denman, in Oxfordshire. We are the only women’s organization to own a college. Some 500 plus courses are held each year with over 6,000 students attending.
Denman College, an elegant Georgian country house, is in the village of Marcham eight miles outside Oxford. A purpose-built teaching block and cottages providing
accommodation are set in 17 acres of landscaped gardens. The college celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1998.
The official magazine of the WI, first produced in 1919, is Home and Country, a very worthwhile read. It is published monthly in full colour and keeps everyone in touch through
exchanges of news and views from NFWI.
The WI encourages members to participate in activities such as Art and Craft, Music and Drama, Produce, Public Affairs, Sports and Leisure and many more. Advisers are on hand
to offer support where needed.
Why not come along and see what you are missing?
